Wedding Hashtag 101

Your big day is months away and the planning has begun. Your photographer is booked to capture the big moments, décor details, and dancing at your wedding. Of course that is awesome and such a relief, but what about all of those spontaneous, candid moments that are more likely captured on your friend’s smart phone? That is where the #WeddingHashtag comes into play. To have access to all of your wedding moments that your guests captured, there are several things you should keep in mind to create a great hashtag.

Begin with your names. First, last, and even nicknames can be included in the tag but you should make sure that it is not too long or too hard for other people to spell. If you have a common name, such as Mr. and Mrs. Smith, you can add the date of your wedding to the end to assure that no one else has used the hashtag.

If you are still fumbling around with the hashtag name or still aren’t quite satisfied with it, try using puns and alliteration. This way you can create a fun tag that is catchy and easier for people to remember. Once you have this name finalized, make sure the first letter of every word in the tag is capitalized and that everything is easy to spell/spelled correctly.

Now that you have your hashtag secured and ready for Instagram, you need to spread it around. Putting your wedding hashtag on your Save-the-Dates and official wedding invitations is a great start. Also, you can add the tag to your wedding welcome sign and menu in order to remind guests to use it and share their cherished, captured memories with you.
